What is the range of the Uniden PRO401HH ?

Uniden PRO401HH Professional Series 40 Channel Handheld CB Radio, 4 Watts Power with Hi/Low Power Switch, Auto noise cancellation, Belt Clip And Strap Included, 2.75in. x 4.33in. x 8.66in.

The general rule is, 1 watt = 1 mile, for handheld CB radios they are 4 watts so the maximum is 4 miles.

The Uniden PRO401HH range is 150-250 yards with the stock antenna. I was able to get 350-400 yards in open field or about a half of a mile.

If you want to increase the range, a good idea is to buy a long-range antenna, I recommend the RoadPro 24" mount antenna.

The LCD Display:

The display is the one area where I think Uniden could have done a better job. Just looking at the Cobra's, they have a display that is robust and eye-catching.

The Uniden Pro 401 HH only shows what channel you are on and two illuminated places for a low battery warning and if you are transmitting.

Nothing special but keep in mind, the price point matches the bells and whistles that come with this CB radio.

Battery Life & Power:

It requires 9 AA batteries which are not included. You can use either rechargeable batteries (9 AA Ni-MH) or alkaline batteries.

The traditional batteries tend to last 1-2 months of normal use (1-3 a week).

If you use it more frequently, I would recommend going the rechargeable battery route. I recommend the EBL 10 Count pack.

A good price and a quality battery. Just be sure to select the switch inside the battery compartment to which type of battery you are using - alkaline or rechargeable.

NOAA Weather/ Emergency Channel:

Unfortunately, it does not offer the NOAA weather monitoring or alert system. This is a major con for the Uniden Pro 401 HH. All of the other top CB radios offer this as a standard feature.

Dual watch:

Like some of the other high-featured handheld CBs, the Uniden Pro 401 HH offers a dual watch function allowing you to

Who is the Uniden PRO401HH For?

If you’re a trucker or just a CB radios enthusiast who doesn’t want to spend too much money, the Uniden PRO401HH is a good option.

Mind you, this CB radio is great for close-range communication, but you won’t be able to use it for distances over 250-350 yards.

Uniden PRO401HH - The Pros:

What I like:

  • 40 AM channelsSends a powerful signal in a short-distance communication
  • Simple and easy to useBattery saver
  • Very affordable price

Uniden PRO401HH - The Cons:

What I don't like:

  • Range is ok, not great
  • 9 AA batteries not included
  • No NOAA weather alerts
