Cobra HH 50 WX ST - The Features:

The Cobra HH 50 WX ST is a great, little CB radio that would make an excellent choice for the average or novice CB radio user who doesn't want all of the frills available on more costly models.

It is a good value considering the affordable price while being one of the best handheld CB radios available.

The Cobra HH 50 WXST also comes with a backlit display that is easy to read in the dark as well as 40 channels for quick access and of course an external speaker jack if you don't want to rely on the built-in one.

Another benefit that is well worth its weight in gold is the Soundtracker Noise Reduction System from Cobra. This helps to reduce static and interference, resulting in a clearer conversation.

According to Cobra's claims, it reduces 90% of noise; however, based on my testing, it actually cuts out 75-85 percent. Get up-to-date information on road conditions and NOAA weather alerts, as well as clear communication with the Soundtracker noise reduction system—all in a robust, lightweight design.

The Cobra CB Radios are some of the best CB radios on the market.

The LCD Display:

I like the Illuminated LCD Display on this CB radio. I was able to read the information relatively easily and it was bright enough even in the pitch black of night.

It is the standard 4 watts. The LCD Signal Strength Meter displays how many Watts you are putting out.

Quick tip - DO NOT EVER START YOUR VEHICLE WITH THE RADIO ON AND PLUGGED IN! The quick voltage drop can harm the radio. I nearly damaged my radio doing that.

Battery Life & Power:

If you want to use batteries, you'll need nine AA batteries. The charging jack allows rechargeable NiMH AA batteries to be charged using a household AC wall charger (not included) or the 12V port in your car.

The Cobra HH 50 WXST also has a power save mode to save on battery life you can select between 1 watt or 4 watts to minimize battery power use.

NOAA Weather/ Emergency Channel:

With instant access to NOAA weather channels, you'll be the first to know about new Hazards or changed conditions. There's even an emergency alert system and inclement weather warnings built-in.

Dual watch:

You have the choice of monitoring two channels at once. Listen for transmissions on multiple channels so that you may be alerted to events or truckers/off-roaders in your area.

Who is the Cobra HH 50 WX ST  For?

The HH50 WXST is a good handheld CB radio for the new or novice user who wants to listen in on their local 40 CB channels and hear road conditions, weather alerts, emergencies, and truckers/off-roaders.

If you are looking for a high-quality CB radio, I recommend this one. It's a great handheld CB even if it doesn't have all of the bells & whistles that some of the other high-dollar CB radios have.

Cobra HH 50 WX ST Pros:

  • Cobra’s Soundtracker Noise Reduction System does a great job!
  • It's small in size, so you can take it with you and use it without having to get tired out.
  • It boasts a wide range for its size, which is excellent considering its tiny stature.

Cobra HH 50 WX ST Cons:

  • The antenna isn't as powerful as you would hope. Expect to receive around 100 meters on average, in an open field you should get the 3-4 mile range. If you get frustrated like I did, I recommend going with the Cobra HG1500.
  • 9 AA Batteries - good grief!!
